Tell us about a career accomplishment of which you’re particularly proud?
One of my best accomplishments was when I was asked by my CFO to organize an “Annual CFO Conference”. He gave me a general guideline… He wanted an annual region-wide finance event that took place in a Latin American country with over 200 participants. Every year we would rotate the country… and that was it… the rest was up to me! I was responsible for coordinating the event remotely and once the event date came closer I would manage it locally. This gave me the opportunity to work and think at a global level, partnering with local peers. The event entailed from choosing the venue, catering, preparing the agenda, gathering the material from the key note presenters, having a guest speaker, compiling participants materials and pre-read documents, organizing the social activities and giveaways, confirming attendees, managing hotel rooms, tracking participant arrival/departures, on-site registration process, every detail until all participants departed back home. Once I was back at the office… my conference work was not done. I had to tabulate all the results from our daily surveys and prepare a spreadsheet and graphs for my CFO to see what was liked, what could have gone better and suggestions for the next conference. Not only did this give me regional exposure, but I was able to build solid relationships with my peers, local and regional employees, and because this was an annual task… I improved and perfected it every year, to the point where everyone would wait anxiously for the next event!
