Diagnostic Industry
The diagnostic industry, which is responsible for testing patients to detect disease, is estimated to have a global worth of US$ 40–45 billion. The industry is made up of three main segments. The first, and most profitable segment is In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) and biotech diagnostics, which involves testing samples of blood and tissue. The second is Diagnostic Imaging, which involves x-rays, computerized axial tomography (CAT), mammograms and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The third is Testing Techniques, such as HIV testing, HPV testing, hepatitis testing or drug testing.
There has been a recent shift in the diagnostic industry in response to an increased demand for quick and accurate viral testing. Manufacturers have recently restructured to make testing technologies, products, reagents, and assays based on an open-source platform. This new model allows manufacturers to offer testing for a larger population with a quicker, more accurate turnaround.
